Ralph reviews a detached house in Curzon Park

Well what a week it has been, with storm Diana subjecting us to gale force winds and lashing us with rain, I decided that the best and most productive course of action for me was to spend most of the week curled up in my basket under dad’s desk. However, this morning the sun has burst out from behind the clouds with impeccable timing just as I was leaving the office to review a family home in Curzon Park.

Taking advantage of the more clement weather, I decided to take my dad for a walk up to Carrick Road, my destination for today’s Ralph’s Review. It proved to be a very pleasant walk with plenty of sights and smells along the way to keep a little pug entertained.

Upon reaching my destination I found a white painted detached house which has an attractive and contemporary look. First impressions made me think that this would be the perfect pad for a modern family and I could hardly wait to find out what the inside has to offer.

Bounding across the gravel drive I dashed up to the front door and into a good-sized hall – first impressions last a lifetime and if a house can be welcoming then this one truly is. I headed through the first door to my right and found myself in a very appealing sitting room. I especially liked the lovely large bay window – perfect for keeping an eye on the neighbourhood cats! Heading back into the hall, I took the door in front of me and found myself in another reception room which is open to a family room at one end. The drawing room is a very welcoming space, with a sumptuous carpet and a very inviting looking living flame gas fire. I was especially drawn to the granite surround and hearth which made the fire look terribly sophisticated. I could just picture myself and my pedigree friends, Charlie the Cavelier King Charles Spaniel and Pedro the Pomeranian, whiling away the hours in front of the fire, lamenting the state of the Kennel Club today…. At one end of the room glazed doors open into the family room, making the entire space exceptionally light and airy.

Keen to explore further I trotted in to the family room and heard a satisfying clatter of claws on the stylish wood effect floor. French windows open into the back garden, making it perfect for long summer’s evenings, surreptitiously catching scraps from the barbeque outside and then heading inside to lie on the floor to cool down before heading back outside to play a bit of football with my human brother. Turning my thoughts back to the inside of the house I saw that, to one side, the family room is open to the kitchen which is fitted out with lovely, contemporary units making it feel super chic. At the far end there is a kitchen dining area.

I pondered that this home works extemely well for a family with a couple of pups, it is an open plan house with each space naturally flowing into the next. I discovered that there is even more to the ground floor of this house with a convenient downstairs cloakroom/utility room.

Heading upstairs I found four light and good-sized bedrooms, two with en suite facilities as well as a family bathroom complete with a large walk in shower – this would be the perfect place to power wash me clean after a rather muddy (but very fun) romp round Westminster park! Even more pleasing was the second storey room I discovered. Currently used as a home gym/study it is a great space although a number of less arduous uses came to my mind. Top of the list, it would make a great place for a pug to catch a few Zzzzs far away from the demands of the pups downstairs.

The inside of 37 Carrick Road confirmed my first impression that it would be a perfect family home. Exploring the outside I discovered a wonderful lawned garden which is so easy to picture with goal posts at either end and me happily hurtling towards them with my ball ready to score! A lovely patio area completes the garden.

All in all 37 Carrick Road ticks every box for a couple and their pups looking for a superb family home in a great location. I think I’ll have to start the search for “Mrs. Ralph”….. just so I have an excuse to buy this house.
Until next time
