Well I could get used to this weather. I have been busy soaking up the rays this week (all in the name of topping up my vitamin D levels you understand!). And a good job too as the rain seems to be back with us today. Anyway, in the midst of this week’s glorious sunshine I took the opportunity to visit a lovely end barn conversion in Clutton.
Clutton is one of my favourite parts of Cheshire, with its stunning views and close proximity to Chester, it is a fabulous location offering the best of both worlds. Approaching Clutton and specifically 3 Lower Hall Mews, all the sights and smells seemed very familiar and, sure enough, as we neared the house I saw one of our Rickitt Partnership boards outside the very beautiful Lower Hall which I reviewed a little while ago. 3 Lower Hall Mews is part of a barn conversion complex next to Lower Hall.
We left the car parked on the driveway which I noted with approval had enough room for two cars as well as room for a further car in a handy little pull in area – space enough for Mum and Dad’s cars as well as a little run about for my human brother when he passes his test. The front of the mews has a lovely feel with an attractive terrace area which looks like a real sun trap.
In fact, it was a little too warm, even for me, and so it was with a little sign of relief that I entered the hallway. Undeniably my entry into 3 Lower Hall Mews was a little less than graceful but needs must, and I immediately flopped down onto the tiled floor to have a rather pleasant cool down. Once I was suitably reinvigorated I took a moment to look around and get my bearings. I found myself in a very light and airy hallway. Looking up I saw a skylight perfectly positioned to allow sunlight to flood into the room – what a welcoming space.
Having cooled down I was super keen to find out what delights were hidden behind each door. My first stop was the room to my left, which I found to be the sitting room. Once again this is a lovely light room with an almost full-length window as well as double French doors which open directly on to the terrace area. The room also has one of my favourite features, a log burner, this one is LPG, so all the warmth and prettiness without the tidying up! On a winter’s day curled up in front of that log burner is guaranteed to be where you would find me.
At the far end of the room double doors opened to the dining room. I could imagine plenty of family festivities and fun in that room – I do enjoy wearing a paper crown at Christmas and indeed on any other day given half a chance! Making my way back into the hallway I found a very conveniently placed cloakroom as well as a study and a very large kitchen/breakfast room, complete with another of my favourite things – an electric Aga.
My next stop was the first floor. Each of the three bedrooms I found there were cosy and full of character. The first bedroom completely charmed me, from the beams in the ceiling, to the dormer window to the cute porthole window.
It also has a large en-suite shower room (I was tempted to nip in to the shower for a further cool off, but then I remembered one of the golden rules for my house visits – no getting wet and shaking all over other peoples’ furniture and décor). The family bathroom and further two bedrooms were equally appealing, full of light, sloping ceilings and artistically placed beams.
Before I headed outside to explore the garden I was pleased to find a former garage which is now used as a storeroom – the perfect place to store my paddling pool in the winter months – yes you heard correctly. My lovely family recently bought me my very own pool to keep me cool in the hot weather. It is my new favourite thing and I absolutely adore hurtling towards it at 100 miles an hour. A stride or two out, I launch myself joyously into the air, ears flapping and legs outstretched before landing with a triumphant bellyflop in the glistening water!
With my mind full of the finesse with which I can launch myself into the pool (I have long been an avid fan of Tom Daly) I noted with satisfaction that there are plenty of places on the expanse of lawn where I could set up my pool and with the necessary space for a good run up!
3 Lower Hall Mews offers so much more than I expected. It is a great size of house perfect for either a couple or a family. It is the kind of house where I could feel truly happy and I have no doubt that you could too.
Until next time
