As today is my birthday, I was treated to a wonderful carob birthday cake in the shape of a bone – yummy! Suffice to say I polished it off in one sitting and I am now the proud owner of a rather large tummy! Despite it being the very first day of my fourth year, Dad said that there is no rest for the wicked and duly parcelled me off to review a barn style new build property near Malpas. Actually I was rather pleased – I have had my eye on this property for a little while.
I think Dad may have regretted his decision to come with me to The Drayton as I insisted on putting a “Happy Birthday Ralph” banner on the back window of the car. I got such a great reception, I think I may leave it there, I felt rather like the Queen greeting her adoring subjects! Arriving in Cross O’Th Hill, first impressions of The Drayton did not disappoint. It is part of a very small development of barn style houses in an absolutely stunning location, surrounded by fields and farmland as far as the eye can see. Now this is the perfect place for a pug to live, so many places to roam and explore. One of the first things I noticed about the house is that it has an abundance of large windows – Wow, what a light home it must be and with fabulous views at every turn….
I bounded up to a fully glazed door and let myself into the hallway – as I suspected this is a gloriously light room, with a floor to ceiling window right next to the staircase. Before I went any further I just could not resist heading halfway up the stairs and to admire the view – even on a rather blustery March day it was a very spectacular sight.
I was tempted back down the stairs by a wonderful aroma coming from the kitchen and so, with tail wagging I trotted across the wood effect laminate floor and into a large open plan room. Looking around I was delighted to find that the space offers both a snug and a dining area as well as the kitchen. Once again this was a beautiful airy space and I simply loved the French windows from the dining area which lead on to a patio area outside.
The perfect setup for our great British summertime – dad could have his barbeque all set up outside and we could have 2 tables set – one inside and one outside to cover every eventuality that the weather may throw at us! Distracted once again by the delectable smells coming from the kitchen, I could resist no more - to my delight, the vendor of The Drayton had heard that it was my birthday and she had turned up with a special birthday stew made from a premium cut of steak “but shush, don’t tell your dad” she whispered to me - no chance of that, it was all wolfed down before he had a chance to enter the room! Feeling resplendently sated, I looked round the kitchen with admiration. It is styled in country style units with a granite worktop and is just perfectly suited to the style of the house as well as its location.
Off the kitchen I found a very handy and good-sized utility room and a study. I quite liked the idea of working in this room, secluded enough to be able to manage my empire but close enough to still feel part of family life. Before I set off to explore upstairs, I found both the cloakroom and the drawing room set off the hallway. This house is just so fabulous, there are yet another set of French doors in this room, meaning that in the summertime the living space can truly be an inside/outside space making for a perfect pug’s life.
On the first floor I found four good-sized bedrooms, all with either an en suite bathroom or an en suite shower room – so that would be a bedroom for mum and dad, one for my human brother, one for me and a spare room for when my dog walking club friends and their respective humans come to visit!
Back downstairs I was very keen to explore the garden although dad give me a firm talking to about not getting over excited and running across the farmer’s fields. “Honestly” I grumbled to myself “do I look daft?? I know that you have to stick to the footpaths!” Suitably chastened but with all of my usual exuberance, I gambolled around the garden which, in keeping with the setting, is mainly lawned. Attached to the house is a feature car port which would easily take two cars.
The Drayton is a very special home which combines an idyllic setting with all the convenience and amenities of a modern property. I simply love it and I am sure you will too. If you think The Drayton could be your next home, please call me on 01244 322322 to book your viewing.
Until next time
