September was a very busy month for me, I have been preoccupied with karting – yes you heard me correctly. As the self-professed Head of Community liaison (as well as my formal title of Head of Customer Relations) I took an executive decision to sponsor a fabulously exciting local community event – The Farndon Soapbox Derby which will be taking place in a year’s time on 18 September 2022. This will be a fun packed day full of races between gravity powered karts – I can hardly wait – I can just see it now – goggles on, ears aflapping, daringly taking each turn on two wheels as I lead the field… Suffice to say I have been holed up in the garage building my prototypes ever since.
I did however find the time to visit the area around the lovely village of Handley to review a rather splendid detached family home. On the day in question dad drove me through Aldersey Park, a quiet, family-centric residential area where we pulled onto a large driveway in front of a very pleasing looking modern detached house. Before hopping down from the car I noted that the driveway would accommodate a large number of cars – more than enough space for my extended family of pugs to park their humans’ cars I thought to myself. I also saw that there is an integral double garage – the perfect place to store my karts in secret (well we don’t want the competition getting wind of my ideas do we??)
I made my way to the glazed front door but not before casting an admiring glance at the monumental, not to say magnificent, tree in the front garden. I asked dad how old it would be and he replied that it was likely several hundred years old – “wow, even older than you” I quipped. From the look that was sent my way, it would seem that dad found my comment less amusing than I did! So on with the business in hand. I stepped over the threshold of Annandale and found myself in a very handy entrance porch – the perfect place to take off my pug wellies after an autumnal walk through the fallen leaves and give myself a darn good shake – after all Mum tells me she loves it when I shake droplets of water all over the floor and windows. She always finishes by saying that she “isn’t being sarcastic at all” – well there you go then – she loves me shaking off the rain droplets all over the house, but just to be super helpful I could limit the shaking to the porch.
Beyond the porch I found myself in a large hallway with a conveniently located cloakroom just off it. A door to the right led me into a light and welcoming sitting room with two wonderfully large windows offering views of the garden. I immediately bounded up to one of the windows and with paws resting on the sill I watched and waited, keen to see what wildlife I could chase, I mean, make friends with…. After admiring the bushy tails of a few earnest squirrels who were busy stocking up their larder for winter, I continued on my journey through this appealing family home. I discovered that the sitting room leads into a large conservatory at one end and is also open to an equally light and spacious dining room. Next to the dining room I found a good-sized kitchen with a utility room beyond. Always thinking about how homes would work for modern family life I thought how perfectly configured this home is, with a very nature “flow” of space.
Having thoroughly approved of the ground floor accommodation I felt it was time to inspect the first floor. I was not disappointed, having bounded up the stairs I found myself on a very large landing which led the way to four good sized bedrooms and a family bathroom. The sense of space and light which appears to be a theme at Annadale continued on the first floor leaving me enveloped with a serene feeling of homecoming.
Now with thoughts of karts filling my mind I was keener than ever to explore the garden which, I was reliably informed, is around a third of an acre. Upon seeing an expanse of lawn and some more rather fabulous trees at the back of the property, I set about constructing my karting practice route – down the drive (getting up to top speed), around the tree (practicing my steering), around to the back garden (practicing my turns) across the lawn (I’m sure dad wouldn’t mind), round another tree (perfecting my steering), back across the lawn (still accelerating) and across the finish line….
Annandale is a simply perfect family house that is just ready for someone to make their mark on so if you feel that it could be the new home for you and your family (or if you feel, as I do, that it could help further your karting career) then please give myself or one of my team a call on 01244 322322 to arrange a viewing.
Until next time
