I hope you all had a good weekend? You will be impressed to learn that I was very industrious and partook in a spot of gardening with my dad. Whilst he trimmed hedges, weeded the borders and mowed the lawn I helped by digging holes, lots of them, everywhere! To my consternation every time I displayed my handiwork to my human, he proceeded to fill in the holes, accompanied by progressively more colourful “choice” words! How strange!
Anyway, enough of my horticultural prowess, I know that you are far more interested in the latest property that I have had the pleasure to review. And I promise you will not be disappointed – the Clock House in Cuckoo’s Nest near Chester is full of charm and character – well that is a fait accompli with an address like that, isn’t it?!
On a rather blustery spring day last week, dad and I set off from the office and hopped into the car. A robust tail wind propelled us towards Cuckoo’s Nest and no sooner had I left the office than I found myself standing in an atmospheric courtyard outside a beautiful building. Dad informed me that The Clock House had formed part of the historic 19th century yard to Eaton Estate. Looking up at the building my eye was taken by a decorative tower set above a clock on the wall in a striking blue colour which, if I was of an artistic persuasion, I would say offsets the Eaton Estate red of the woodwork perfectly!
With a sense of curiosity overwhelming me, I trotted over to the house and stepped over the threshold into a warm and welcoming entrance hall. This is actually more like a snug with a stone feature fireplace, natural stone floor (with underfloor heating!) and easily enough room for a sofa on which I could snuggle up whilst waiting to welcome guests.
Exploring to the right I found myself in an equally friendly and informal sitting room complete with wooden flooring, again with underfloor heating. At this time of the year my paws are impervious to the charms of permanently warm floors but in the middle of winter, oh this would be simply heaven.
My explorations then took me into the drawing room which is another gorgeous room and just the ticket for me, with more underfloor heating and a charming living flame gas log burner sat within a stone surround.
I imagine mum would have to drag me out by my ears for a walk on a rainy winter’s day! With a last wistful glance around the room I went back into the hall and, claws clattering cheerfully on the stone floor, I made my way to the kitchen. I was delighted to find that it is a large, open-plan room with stylish contemporary units and it even has space for a dining table – always opportunistic by nature, I immediately saw the benefit of being able to scavenge leftovers from both the kitchen and the dining table with minimal effort!
Exploring into every nook and cranny of the ground floor, I also found a utility room and a study, as well as a shower room conveniently located in a side hall with a door to the garden. Erm, I thought to myself, I see where I would be unceremoniously hosed off after a walk, but let’s not complain, it could be done in worse places than under a warm shower!
Stairs from the hallway swept invitingly up to the first floor and I bounded up them with enthusiasm. There I found as much character as downstairs - the three bedrooms simply oozed charm with sloping ceilings and exposed beams, one even proudly displayed a period cast iron fire surround. The best of the old I thought to myself before realising that my paws were tantilisingly warm, this gorgeous house has underfloor heating upstairs too! Well, if I ever needed convincing about The Clock House that sealed the deal!
Back on the ground floor I set off to explore the garden. I was delighted to find a large lawn where I would definitely be able to get up a good head of speed whilst hurtling after my favourite toys. I also spied a covered terrace which would be the perfect place to catch a few Zzzzzs in the shade on a hot summer’s day.
Before we left The Clock House dad pointed out the single garage and parking space inside the main courtyard. It looks like this character house has all the bases covered and offers quite simply the best of both worlds. If you are looking for a home full of character but with all the benefits of modern living then The Clock House is for you. Call me on 01244 322322 and I will be delighted to arrange a viewing for you
Until next time
