Ralph reviews a modern detached family house in Holt village
Hasn’t the weather been simply glorious recently? We haven’t seen a drop of rain in weeks (until a few drops this morning), and I have heard dad lamenting that the garden would benefit from some watering so, ever helpful, I have been very busy watering the plants in that unique way that all dog guardians will be familiar with!
Aside from helping out in the garden, I have also been very busy in the office – I find I do my best work sprawled out under dad’s desk with the gentle breeze from the fan keeping me cool. I was reclining in just such a position when my ears pricked up at the sound of my name. Cocking my head in dad’s direction I learnt that the subject of this week’s Ralph’s Review was 28 Castle Gate in Holt. I puzzled for a moment, wondering why that sounded so familiar until I realised that it was a mere stone’s throw from my own home. Fabulous, I thought to myself, I can set off from home after breakfast tomorrow and still be able to arrive back again in time for mum’s morning coffee and (more importantly) my bonio time!
So, with a spring in my step, and anticipation in my heart, I took myself off to bed early that night so I could be up bright and early the next day to have a quick stroll down to 28 Castle Gate. The morning dawned as brightly as the day before and after a rather delicious bowl of my favourite Butternut Box flavour, “Chicken you out”, I headed out the door for the rather short walk through the cul de sac to the corner location of No.28. Now, as you can imagine, I am rather familiar with the property as I walk past it most days, but as I gazed up at it with my professional hat on (not literally) I found a new appreciation for the elegant modern façade and felt that familiar tingle of excited anticipation at the thought of exploring inside.
With a wag of my curly tail, I trotted up to the front door and stepped over the threshold into an entrance hall. I couldn’t resist taking a tantalisingly half open door to my right and on the other side I was delighted to find a beautiful sitting room. As I sauntered around I couldn’t help but admire the details which added such character to the room like the coved ceiling and the lovely Edwardian style fireplace complete with a living flame gas fire – the perfect antidote to cold winter’s nights (yes I know that those seem very far away right now but its always important to consider every season when viewing a house!)
My next stop was a bright and contemporary study which would be the ideal spot for a bit of home working. Back in the hall, I popped my head round the door of a very handy cloakroom before making my way to the dining kitchen. This was a truly welcoming space, no less than four windows allowed light to flood in, bathing the contemporary kitchen units in a soft glow. As I circumnavigated the room, I paused to admire the Rangemaster range style cooker – one of my most favourite things in the whole world – especially when delicious rashers of bacon or roast chickens come out of them!! Before I left the dining kitchen, I also spotted a utility room which could easily house a washing machine and dryer (very useful when you have a messy little pug in the house!).
Back in the hall I headed straight over to the stairs and bounded up to the first floor. Leading off from the landing I found three good-sized bedrooms, one with an en suite shower room and a family bathroom.
I also knew that there was a second floor to explore so, without further ado I trotted (a bit more slowly) up another flight of stairs to the upper storey. I found two charming bedrooms and a shower room – wouldn’t this be the perfect place to house the teenage pups? they would have some privacy and the adults would have some peace!
With a little chuckle to myself I turned about tail and headed all the way back down the stairs to the ground floor where I made my way outside to explore the garden.
When I arrived at 28 Castle Gate, I had already noticed a brick built double garage at the side of the house, so I turned my attention to the back garden which is wonderfully private. Most of the garden is lawned and, as I wandered into the middle of it and rolled over to scratch my back, I can confirm that the grass was cut to perfection, with just the right amount of “tickle” left to be thoroughly satisfying! The garden also boasts a paved terrace area, perfect for al fresco entertaining and a timber decking area complete with a timber framed gazebo – what a wonderful idea, just the spot for a bit of reading.
As I made my way home, in anticipation of my morning snack, I contemplated No 28 Castle Gate’s attributes and concluded that it is a simply perfect family home. If you are as charmed as I was by this lovely home in Holt village, please do not hesitate to contact myself or one of the team on 01244 322322 or info@rickittpartnership.co.uk to arrange a viewing.
Until next time
